The Urchin Dialogues chronicles a 50-year conflict between a fatherless urchin and the man the urchin becomes in later life. Set across the changing sociological landscape of Britain in the latter half of the 20th century, the story tracks the urchins long search for a Dad, in conflict with the mans desire to live out and enjoy his life in the present. Through a series of tragic-comic dialogues conducted between urchin and man, and another series on which the man is engaged with the citys downtrodden, the novel humorously explores the fatherless, and through the single parenting of the protagonists own children, the fathering of the self.
